Diplomate, American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with special emphasis in coordinated management of interdisciplinary dental implant patients requiring specialized hard and soft tissue grafting.
Dr. Richard E. Scheetz Jr. is originally from Boardman, Ohio, and in 1977 he received his Bachelors degree from the University of Notre Dame in Preprofessional Studies. He completed dental school at The Ohio State University (OSU) in 1980 while simultaneously studying for a master’s degree in Anatomy (completed in 1985).
Dr. Scheetz was ranked first in his class at OSU. He received the Alpha Omega Awards Pippin Oral Surgeons Award and Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honorary Dental Fraternity. During his residency training, Dr. Scheetz completed a one-year general practice residency at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio, (where he was born) and a four-year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at The Ohio State University. During his residency he was the first Ohio State Oral and Maxiollfacial resident to complete an honorary registrar program in London, England at Westminster and Queen Mary’s Hospitals.
Dr. Scheetz first practiced with renowned Columbus oral and maxillofacial surgeons, Dr. Bernard Snyder, T. William Evans, Dr. Douglas Anderson and eventually Dr. Gary Racey. In 1994 Dr. Scheetz opened Oral and Facial Surgeons of Ohio with his partner, Dr. Larry Peterson. Since then the practice has grown and thrived in Dublin, Ohio for more than a decade. The practice is currently affiliated with the Columbus Blue Jackets, treating oral, facial and jaw injuries sustained by NHL players during home games. Dr. Scheetz was one of the original CBJ physicians in 2000.
Dr. Scheetz is Board Certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, and a Fellow of the International College of Dentists. He is a member of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the Academy of Osseointegration, and the American Cleft Palate Craniofacial Association. Dr. Scheetz is a member of the local, state, regional, nationals and international Oral and Maxillofacial associations. He was recently voted “Best Dentist in Central Ohio” by his peers in Columbus Monthly magazine.
Dr. Scheetz also serves as Adjunct Clinical Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at The Ohio State University. He has lectured to dentists, nurses, dental and medical students, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, and plastic and reconstructive surgeons nationally and internationally on a variety of topics, including oral and maxillofacial trauma, dental implants and facial reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Scheetz performs the full scope of practice in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery including the removal of teeth, surgical removal of wisdom teeth, dental implant reconstruction, facial and jaw reconstruction, select facial cosmetic surgery procedures, office sedation and general anesthesia. He is affiliated with Dublin Methodist Hospital and Grant Medical Center.
Dr. Scheetz currently resides in Dublin with his wife, Cindy. Together they have five children: Erika (who is currently in dental school at OSU), Brita, Heidi and twin boys Ricky and Derek. Dr. Scheetz is also a proud grandfather to his two grandsons.
In his spare time Dr. Scheetz enjoys time with his family, ocean fishing, traveling, photography, reading and watching collegiate sports.
