Dr. Richard E. Scheetz, Jr., DDS, MS
Dr. Scheetz is a native of Boardman, Ohio, attended the University of Notre Dame (BS, 1977) and the Ohio State University College of Dentistry (DDS, 1980) where he graduated first in his dental class. During dental school and his residency training, he earned a Master’s Degree in Anatomy. Dr. Scheetz completed a one-year general practice residency at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio, and a four-year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at The Ohio State University. Part of his training included a position as Honorary Clinical Registrar in London, England.
Dr. Scheetz is Board Certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, and a Fellow of the International College of Dentists. He is a member of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the Academy of Osseointegration, and the American Cleft Palate Craniofacial Association. Dr. Scheetz is a member of local, state, regional, national, and international Oral and Maxillofacial associations.
As one of the team Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons for the Columbus Blue Jackets, he is responsible for the treatment of oral, facial and jaw injuries sustained by National Hockey League players.
Dr. Scheetz fulfills the role as Adjunct Clinical Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at The Ohio State University. He has lectured to dentists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, and plastic and reconstructive surgeons nationally and internationally on a variety of topics, including oral and maxillofacial trauma, dental implants, and facial reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Scheetz performs the full scope of practice in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery including the removal of teeth, surgical removal of wisdom teeth, dental implant reconstruction, facial and jaw reconstruction, select facial cosmetic surgery procedures, office sedation, and general anesthesia. He is affiliated with the Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, and Maxillofacial Surgery Department of Grant Hospital.
Dr. Scheetz is married to Cindy Scheetz and they have five children; Erika, Brita, Heidi, Ricky and Derek. Dr. Scheetz enjoys spending time with his family, other activities including deep sea fishing, and attending sporting events of his children.
