Dr. Guillermo E. Chacon, DDS
Dr. Chacon was born and raised in San Jose, Costa Rica. He graduated from the University of Costa Rica with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in 1990. He then completed a mandatory one-year internship in community dentistry for The Ministry of Health. After that, he went into private practice in general dentistry in his native city. He was accepted into a two-year fellowship in Oral Implantology at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida (1993-1995). He then spent a year at The Ohio State University (1995-1996) as an intern in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. In 1996, he entered a four year training program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Washington, Seattle, WA, which is known around the world as a leader in orthognathic surgery, facial trauma reconstruction, and implant innovation. He then joined the full time faculty at the Ohio State University in July of 2000 and in 2002 was appointed as director of the residency training program in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Dr. Chacon is Board Certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is a fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, the Academy of Osseointegration, and the American Cleft Palate Craniofacial Association. Dr. Chacon is also a member of local, state, regional, national, and international Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and dental associations.
Dr. Chacon maintains a faculty affiliation in the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at The Ohio State University as an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor. He has extensive research experience and multiple publications, especially in the areas of dental implants and bone reconstruction. He lectures nationally and internationally on a variety of topics, including dental implants, bone regeneration, trauma, and facial cosmetic surgery.
Dr. Chacon practices the full scope in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery including the removal of teeth, surgical removal of wisdom teeth, dental implant reconstruction, facial and jaw reconstruction, facial cosmetic surgery procedures, office sedation, and general anesthesia. He is affiliated with the Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, and Maxillofacial Surgery Department of Grant Hospital, and the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Ohio State University Medical and Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Chacon enjoys running and working out and is currently training to participate in several events including the Chicago marathon. Other activities include reading, gardening, and spending time with his two daughters, Cristina and Mariana.
