Facial Trauma

When you have a car accident, a fall or if you were in a fight, anything like that can cause facial trauma and may need to be repaired by surgical procedures. Say you have your tooth knocked out, it's extremely important that you get to us within 30 minutes so we can put it back in.

Do not pick the tooth up by the tooth make sure you pick it up by the crown part and keep it moist. If it is dirty rinse it off and put it in a cup of milk or water. You can also try to put your tooth back in yourself, but if it keeps falling out come to us as soon as you can. You can have soft tissue injuries like, lacerations to your face and oral lacerations.

We repair these by stitching your face up. We as oral and facial trauma surgeons, are trained to treat these situations for the best results possible. If your facial nerves, salivary gland and ducts were hurt, we carefully look and inspect them and decide which is the best course of treatment to take. It is very important that we treat the soft tissue and the underlying structures as well.

If you have fractured your bones that is in your nose, cheek, jaw or your eye socket, we must stabilize them immediately. We would have to use different measures to do that because your face is not like your leg or your arm. We can't put a cast on your face. So, we will use something called a rigid fixation where your jaw bones will be supported by a surgical placement of small plates and screws.

This will let the bone heal and it won't be as restrictive like your jaws being wired together, that is also another option we can do. If you have any questions or concerns about facial trauma please don't hesitate to call us, or come and see us. We are always here to help in any way we can.
